NATIVE NEW MEXICAN
Anthony Sanchez was born and raised in Los
Alamos, New
Mexico. He attended Highland University where he studied with New
Mexico artists Elmer Schooley, Ray Drew and Frank Walker. He graduated
from Highlands with a BA in Fine Arts with multi-fine art disciplines
(Oil and Water Color painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Weaving, Photography
and Art History). He also received his MA from Highlands in Educational
Administration.
Anthony briefly taught art in the public schools
and drawing at a community college. Anthony especially enjoys working
in ink, oil, watercolor and pencil. His subject matter encompasses
intimate landscapes, still life, and detail close ups. He enjoys work
that reveals the basic elements of design found in nature, such as the
organic structural form of something as simple, (yet complex) as the
seed of the goat head weed, to the design, rhythm, color and harmony
created by the repetition of a pile of dried leaves. Also as a result
of his Art History background Anthony has a universal appreciation for
all types of art forms from various cultures, enjoying painting,
sculpture, architecture, engineering, music, history, literature, with
recent interest in the evolution of Japanese anime and manga as a fine
art.
