Jeffrey Neumann was born in Cedar Rapids,
Iowa in 1953. He attended Minneapolis College of Art and Design in
1973-74 and graduated from Springfield College with a B.S. in Fine Art
in 1981.
Painting in both oils and watercolors for over 30
years, Neumann has won awards and commissions in both media and is
represented in numerous corporate and private collections including
Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co., Fleet Bank, The City of Springfield,
MA, United States Congressional Offices, WGGB Television and many
others. He has had two solo exhibitions and exhibited in group shows in
New England and New York City. He was featured in an “Art Business
News” magazine emerging artist profile in January 2004.
Neumann spent most of his childhood years in New
Mexico. Although he has lived in primarily in New England since his
teens, growing up in 1950s and 60s Albuquerque and Roswell left a
profound impression on him. The vernacular American architecture of
that period often serves as a vehicle for his expression of a
particular mood.
Writing in “Santa Fe Circle” magazine, Audrey
Levin McLaughlin says, “Neumann’s luminous oils and watercolors
penetrate the duality of the American experience; the thrill of
adventure, the romance of the road and the loneliness and melancholy
echoed by vapid advertisements on rusting signs. They invite us to step
into a world where the commonplace becomes magical. Neumann’s work
leaves interpretation open-ended but ultimately rewards the viewer with
a soulful depth that only becomes richer with contemplation.”
"My aim is to create deeply personal work that
speaks about the soul of America." - Jeffrey Neumann
