Art Exchange Gallery is proud to present the work
of Paul Jones. Paul has been painting since 1952 and holds a master’s
degree in fine art from the University of Oklahoma. His technique of
pointillism laid over acrylic paint enables him to capture the texture
and warmth of his subjects in amazing detail. His work is a must see!
He painted with the Indians at the Taos Pueblo
from age 8 until his teen years. Some of the people that he mentions as
mentors are Charles Reynolds and artist, Mel Boyd. He comments about
these early years by saying, “the people of the pueblo had the greatest
impact”. Because of the relationships that he developed during these
formative years, he is able to attend many Pow Wows and tribal events
that most of us will never be able to attend.
His painting took a back seat to his business
career after college. He worked as a chef, a corporate executive and
undertook a variety of business venures. Then in1987 he began to paint
again and received some success. In 1991 he had a one-man show in Plano
Texas at the Cultural Arts Council. Many more honors followed including
a Museum show in Idabel, Oklahoma and a show at the University of
Oklahoma, in Norman, Oklahoma.
He was asked to be the cover artist for Saddle
Baron magazine in 2002 and was also featured in The Artist’s Magazine
in 2002 revealing his pointillism techniques to other aspiring artists.
Take a look at some of the paintings that we
feature on the website. We are very fortunate to have several of Paul’s
originals. Seeing these paintings up close is thrilling.
