Born in Chelsea, MA. in 1926, Richard served in the U.S.N.R. World War II 1944-46 as a photographer and later graduated from the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, 1950. He studied design under Prof. Gyorgy Kepes at M.I.T. School of Visual Design Architectural Center Cambridge, MA. Richard’s talents resulted in a successful career in advertising art, where he worked as a commercial artist and art director for various distinguished ad agencies throughout the Boston area. For several years, he owned and operated an art studio and gallery in Watertown, MA.

Art Exchange Gallery presents this talented artist who has roots in Armenia, but spent much of his life in New England and now resides in Santa Fe, NM.  Richard has traveled back to his roots and done many drawings and paintings of historic and Biblical scenes. He has done paintings that depict Internationally famous artists of Armenian heritage, William Saroyan, (writer), Aram Khatchadourian, (composer), Arshile Gorky, (abstract painter)  and Komidas Vartabed, (musician/composer)…all of whom have gained considerable prominence in their individual fields.  He has painted Biblical and Historic Mt. Ararat on location and in his studio upon returning to the states.  His paintings of Armenia capture the spirit of the land and people of Armenian heritage.
